- Jumpstart is a feature of the Solaris 2.x operating system.
- Provides for custom/automated installs of the Solaris operating system.
- Can be done over the network (most common), as well as locally from CD/floppy
- Based on the diskless-client support available since SunOS 2.x

- Automated installs of the OS using Solaris defaults

- Standardization of an OS configuration across multiple systems
