  • Jumpstart is a feature of the Solaris 2.x operating system.
  • Provides for custom/automated installs of the Solaris operating system.
  • Can be done over the network (most common), as well as locally from CD/floppy
  • Based on the diskless-client support available since SunOS 2.x
    Some of the uses for a jumpstart environment are:
  • Standard interactive installs of the OS
  • Automated installs of the OS using Solaris defaults
  • Automated installs of the OS using custom configurations
  • Standardization of an OS configuration across multiple systems
  • Mass rollouts/upgrades of many systems at once
